Dress watches are definitely not the most popular genre of watches.
Most people prefer sporty watches like dive watches, pilot’s watches, chronographs etc., but I believe that everyone should have at least 1 dress watch in their collection.
Here are my top 5 dress watches which you can pick up for a few hundred dollars.
When I hear the words “dress watch on a budget”, the first thing that comes to mind is the Orient Bambino.
There are many variations of this watch and you can easily find them for under $200.
Orient is a Japanese brand which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Seiko. They are better known for their dive watches like the Ray and Mako, but they make many other watches as well.
Seiko SARB033 & SARB035
The SARB033 and SARB035 from Seiko are classic dress watches.
They are exactly the same, but with different dial colours. They use the famous 6R15 movement which is used in many other Seiko models. The watch also has a display caseback.
Vintage Omega Seamaster
The world of vintage Omega is huge! If you go on Ebay you will find hundreds of gorgeous vintage Omegas for sale. Most of them will be from the 1940’s, 50’s and 60‘s and you will be able to pick them up for a few hundred dollars. They might need a service, but don’t worry because these watches are very popular and parts are easily available.
They might be a bit small when comparing them to modern watches (32 – 36mm), but it’s a dress watch….it’s not supposed to be a big flashy Hublot or AP Royal Oak Offshore.
The Visodate comes in a few dial colours. It looks very “old fashioned” and uses the vintage Tissot logo. It also has a very nice display caseback.
The Visodate uses an ETA 2836-2 movement which displays the day as well as the date.
Seiko 5 SNKL23
This watch has been featured on Tick Talk before, but I just had to mention it again.
The Seiko SNKL23 is probably the ultimate budget dress watch.
Hodinkee did a great article on it.
